Making a 3-button into a 2-button

I did some searching and couldn't find a thread that necessarily cleared this up for me. Is a 'two-button rolled' the same thing as a three-button that has been made into a two-button?

The reason I ask is that I have a blazer/sportcoar which has perfect length/shoulders/material/color, but is a 3-button and looks awkward to me when paired with jeans/open-collared shirt, which is how I would like to wear it. The question is, can I simply go into a tailor and say "I would like this made into a 2-button?" Will I constantly have to get it pressed/will it start to look awkward?

I realize the obvious solution is to buy a new coat, but I really like the material/color and would not mind there being a blatant button-hole on the collar if that is part of a normal rolled jacket anyways. Any advice?

I wouldn't try it. The lapels are meant to be rolled to a certain button and it wouldn't look good.

Agree. No getting around the third buttonhole and it would just look awful.

Is that feasible ? Does it only implies pressing the lapels accordingly ?

It's possible with a fully canvassed front, and a forgiving material like wool. I have a Jil Sander suit in flannel which I can wear 3 or 3roll2 although it's designed as a 3 buttons.

Regarding original post, the answer is "no".

I think it's a tough modifications. First if you decide to lower the roll to the second button, it means the lapel will have to be detached from the collar, trimmed to adjust for the new angle and reattached alond with probable modifications of the collar. These modifications I would say require someone that really understands suits. If this person messes up, the whole jacket would utterly be worthless cause lapels are very important to the look of the suit. There just so many things that can be messed up!

Please try at your own risk but I think it is not worth it.

That is what I meant to ask as opposed to "2-button rolled". I wasn't sure what it was called.

I am not sure about having to detach the lapel though; I have creased the collar lightly and it seems to look decent when simple pressed into a two-button configuration. I think I may take it to a good tailor and let you guys know how it turns out.

Just pressing it won't last. The press will give out. The lapel rolls to where it wants to go partly based on the cut, but even more owing to the tension of the collar. To really change the roll, the collar would have to be removed and reset.

I had this done. Doesn't look horrendous but I don't wear the suit any longer as the lapel width grew after the work. I would not advise anyone to do it.
