Making $100k/year: would you rather be working in Manhattan or Nashville, TN?

I travel to both places with enough frequency so I am familiar with both culture aspects of either city, at no age would I choose NYC and the surrounding area. Really, today what you can't find locally in goods can easily be delivered by UPS or FedEx. People are the same everywhere. Nashville is a very cosmopolitan southern city. NYC has tall buildings, teaming masses, ridiculous traffic, and high taxes; I can see what is so appealing about that.

If you are talking about the South, Atlanta isen't so bad either...

Without a doubt, Nashville. $100K is enough to live very well in Nashville and vacation several times a year in NYC, if that's your thing. There are many, many places I'd rather go than NYC for my vacations, though.

For me even at 41 I would choose Manhattan over Nashville, I prefer the big city and I am not a fan of both kinds of music.

Atlanta is a great friggin' town. I love traveling there for business. I'm there almost once a month. Great restaurants, hotels, entertainment, natural beauty; but, the traffic blows.

Plus, in deference to the OP, Atlanta is not in the equation.

I would ask the same questions about NYC that you ask about Nashville. There's more to life than nightlife.

(I could even tolerate the music scene in Nashville, though I don't enjoy either kind of music, COUNTRY or WESTERN.)

Anyone who disparages Nashville and its country music scene obviously has never been to Tootsie's Orchid Lounge on Broadway. Bartenders are hot chicks, all types of people as patrons, and one band on the main level, and one band upstairs in back. Many kinds of beer or hard liquor you could imagine.

Nashville has good restaurants, too.

Seriously, one shouldn't weigh in on this topic unless you have spent considerable time in either place.

It is easy to see how the jaded can think the NYC is the only place to live, but those of us who prefer to own property while earning a meager low six-figure wage will prefer a place such as Nashville.
