I am in Madrid for 8 days. From the clothing point of view we hit Burgos and Carmina. We stopped in Lopez Herbon but he needed too much time for fittings.
I can tell you that the owner and people at Burgos were exceptionally sweet with us, so un-AAAC/LL/SF-ish as to be completely disarming. I ordered 3 shirts from Spanish cotton, though I could have gone to town with Alumo. No Riva.
Carmina has three stores. The nicest and smallest is on Serano and the man there was also incredibly gracious and kind. I forgot my "little problem" (which led to my discarding my Carmina shoes and my being expelled from the London Lounge) and purchased a pair of reddish brown scotch grain derbies with lug sole. There were some cheap-looking shoes on sale, but most of the shoes were very fine and really well-priced. To see all the cordovan shoes together was also very impressive. I have always liked the concept of Alden but the reality is different and Carmina really has all the shapes and models that they should have, getting the elegant model from Alden is a chore.
Men here are more formal than in the USA but they are not over the top and I have never been uncomfortable, despite my not wearing a tie. A lot of Barbour.
