Variety is the spice of life, to each his own and live and let live but visiting a handful of shoe stores along Madison Avenue on a nice Fall day can be summed up in word: ennui. Of course these are personal impressions but the in-store offerings of Weston, Berluti, Santoni etc. were disappointing and dull, even deviant would have interested me, especially given that I am quite taken by the pictures I see on the Internet of these brands.

Thankfully I always enjoy myself at John Lobb, most likely because the 7000 last fits me like a dream and I like the selection of Lobbs on the 7000 last(City 2, Towcester, Philip 2 etc.); as an aside the John Lobb 2008 I think fails, at least on my feet. But I really love visiting the Lattanzi store, at least to me the most interesting selection of shoes to handle though most of the shoes are samples for MTO or Custom shoes. The 2 RTW lasts that I like are the 67 and the 702, the 702 being the sleeker last - the 702 models shown are the Asquit...

Note: the picture on the right taken at the Lattanzi store, the upper-right picture mine, the lower right taken from the Internet somewhere, apologies to the owner.

I wish the owner would post and tell me what the color is - I'd buy a pair in a minute.

For some reason that reminds me of a poem:

The apparition of these faces in the crowd;
Petals on a wet, black bough.

I checked and Lattanzi tells me the color is Pebody Arancio.
