    Hello to all,

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.

I am getting married at the end of April next year and I would like to get a suit made for the occasion.

I have decided on MTM rather than fully bespoke, primarily due to budget. I am looking at getting a 3 piece, 2 button, fairly slim fitting suit and my absolute maximum budget is £1000. Ideally I would like a fully floating canvas suit that has been made in the UK.

I live near Newcastle and after searching online for reputable tailors the closest I could find were Steed, based in Cumbria and Higgins and Brown based in Leeds.

Steeds MTM 3 piece suits start at £895 (if you make the journey), they are fused and are made in the Czech Republic.
Higgins and Brown MTM 3 piece suits start at £599 and are made in Leeds. I'm not sure how their MTM range is constructed as it doesn't say on the site but I will give them a ring and find out.

From searching online, I know that Steed has a good reputation but I am struggling to find any reviews on Higgins and Brown and there aren't any photos on their site. Has anyone had any suits made by either Steed or Higgins and Brown and if so how did they turn out? Also if anyone has had suits made by other tailors in the North of England (as far down as Manchester) I would be very interested in hearing about their experiences.

    Thank you.

I know I am replying to an old post, but thought I would leave feedback for others to see...

My advice is to stay away from Higgins & Brown!!

I ordered two suits and paid a large deposit. He cancelled subsequent fittings and is no longer returning calls or emails.

As far as I can see he is a scam.

And if it is of use add Thomas Mahon's MTM to the list of contenders

I agree with Alan Mac. Higgins and Brown have scammed me as well, steer well clear!

I was fitted for several items 7 months ago and received one ill fitting suit before their owner/Director, Mr Smith, stopped communicating having fobbed me off with various excuses about not being able to complete or deliver the order for months and I have now decided to take legal action to try to recover the debt or goods ordered as I am well over £1K out of pocket.

Hi Ash - what legal action are you considering?

Anyone else looking for decent value MTM in that neck of the woods could do far worse than try Carl Stewart in Ossett. I have a dinner suit made there about 10 years back and it is still going strong and a pretty good fit.

    Hi dermitchie
I have legal cover through my home insurance policy and they have reviewed my case and have instructed a solicitor to act on my behalf to recover either the goods ordered/not supplied or payments made. I am not overly hopeful of receiving either but hope this is a cautionary tale and no-one else is conned in the same way. Trading Standards should act...
    Best regards

    Hi All,

I note that a few people on here have been conned by Higgins and Brown. Sadly, there have been many others (I think I actually recognise one you on here from what you have written).

I have set up the following email account for people who are having difficulty with H&B:

    [email protected]

If you are as furious as I am and the other people who have been conned are, please get in touch so that we can look at our options as a group. Our strength in numbers will likely get us the best result!
