Hi guys

We all know about London's famous Savile Row and it's unassailable reputation for tailored suits that cost in the thousands. Many people speak of getting a made-to-measure suit in places like Thailand for a very good price. Has anyone experienced this? I'd imagine the quality may be slightly compromised, or perhaps the fit, but is it a viable budget option?

I heard a similar story from a friend who went to India who got what looks like a very nice and well-fitting suit for very cheap by a man with a reputation there. ALthough I have only seen pics.

Has anyone experienced or know-of these budget made-to-measure or maybe even bespoke options across the world?

You'll be disappointed if you're hoping to get a great suit for $400-$500 in places like India, Thailand or Vietnam. I blew quite a bit of money chasing the same dream, and would urge you to stay away.

Amongst the cheaper int'l options, places like Gordon Yao or WW Chan in HK would be your best bet, but do intend to pay $1.5 - $2.0K, and spend a week in the city to get the requiste fittings. Off-the-row London tailors like Jon DeBoise, Chris Kent etc. are also similarly priced and very competant.

None of the options mentioned above match the quality or fit of the top SR, Italian or NY tailors (there is a reason why they're 2-3x the price). But they're very good for the price, and certainly worlds better than the discount tailors found elsewhere.

Thanks. Being based near the UK, it sounds like off-the-row London tailors are my best bet

Gordon Yao is the equivalent of SR at higher Hong Kong prices but is not as cheap as some of the off Row tailors.
