JAB. They tend to have better-trained salesmen and rarely have seriously ugly suits. Macy's has some good solid, standard suits but sometimes falls into some strange fashion pitfalls.

Macy's is a dept. store that sells many (almost all crappy) brands. JAB only sells their own brand. So, you are essentially comparing a store to a brand. I've only been in a JAB store once about 5 years ago and tried on a "Joseph" suit (their so-called slimmer line) and the shoulders were like a linebacker's and the overall cut of the suit was just awful.

This question is like asking do you prefer headaches or stomach aches? I'll pass on both.

Some Macy's stores carry decent household goods.

That's fair. However, for menswear, I think I'd give the nod to JAB. You can order A-E's at 20% off if you've got a corporate card, which is very easy to get, and in general their styles seem more conservative and tasteful. At the risk of sounding Cruiser-esque in my repetitiveness, I still maintain their Signature Gold suits at 70% off (as they often are) are rather decent values for the guy who doesn't want to spend too much on a suit.

If I had no other options outside of the two, I'd probably choose JAB simply because they carry some decent shoes, and some of their tailored clothing is not awful--if not necessarily a good value at retail or even sale prices. Macy's clothing is of a lower quality, but most of their stuff can regularly be had during one of their perpetual sales for the same prices you'd find at TJ Maxx and much lower than JAB even during one of JAB's perpetual sales. For instance, I got several of their Eagle slim fit non-iron shirts for $17. Now I picked up a Brooks Brothers egyptian cotton, which is much nicer than the Eagle, for $20 (retail $135), but the difference is I can go to Macy's and find the Eagles in my size for that price any day of the week, whereas I rarely find deals that good on mainline Brooks Bros stuff at brick and mortar stores. I think the Eagle shirts compare favorably to the JAB shirts, which are usually priced higher. Conclusion: neither are great options to build your wardrobe, but if you're looking to fill some gaps inexpensively, Macy's is the cheaper option.

+1 In what way is this a useful comparison? Jesus.
