Mac coat

Hi guys,

I am in need of a Mac coat.. Not a wool coat, but more rain and wind coat in a navy colorway. Can you recommend any available coats at this time? Right now i am considering the APC one, but it seems very pricy.

I would highly appreciate any recommendations!

I tried an actual Mackintosh on in London last week, for the first time. I’m sure it’s no surprise to anyone else that it was rather stiff and smelled noticeably of rubber. But my main disappointment was that they come no longer than knee length (on me, anyway). Which means that, in the rain, the coat would be a very effective way of channeling all the water that falls on my upper body on to my trousers below the knee. It did not seem very practical to me.

Rain macs come in all price categories.
Expensive ones: burberry, mackintosh, aquascutum, private white vc, grenfell, Berg and berg.

Luckily most menswear stores has a Mac in their inventory and they can be found at j. Crew, tm lewin, Charles tyrwhitt, club Monaco, suitsupply, lands end.

Pay attention to the length. Shorter, car coat, if its primarily for short walks and if you intend to drive in it. And longer if it is for long walks in the Rain.

You might try Sanyo. Mine is a classical Balmacaan w/ Raglan sleeves.
The fabric is not pure cotton and it is virtually water-proof as opposed to
"water-repellant" which is characteristic of the British coats I have owned.
From the web it looks like the current model no longer has Raglan sleeves.

The coat i am actually after is one very similar to this:
- About knee length
- Looks quite clean in design
- Preferably some horn buttons (not a definite requirement)
- Navy blue.
- Pockets (both inner and outer) would be preferable.

@burberry, unfortunately i have not good experience with that brand unless it is prorsum and for those money i would rather go with a Mackintosh/A.P.C. If you have specific suggestions within the Burberry line then please expand and i will definitely take a look.

@Andy57 , i am actually somewhat surprised with your comment about Macintosh, they seem to get mentioned alot. Probably just because the name is common. Thank you for the insights though.

@norMD dieworkwear makes some great posts, cheers. But J.crew doesnt seem to have what i am looking for, neither does Club Monaco unfortunately.

@comrade unfortunately, they seem to be based in the U.S. That will be quite expensive to get it too Europe (Denmark). Do enlighten me if you have a great place they are on sale or a vendor within Europe.

The styles and colors change from season to season. I see j crew only have a kahki offering right now. This is club monacos version in navy.

I've only good things to say about the Baracuta G10 (the coat i'm wearing on the current Friday Challenge pic), but it is not very long, seems a tad longer than a car coat though. It has an excellent water repellency and is Made in England.

I have the Veilance Partition and love it. It falls above the knee though.

The LT version is shorter and thinner than the AR version. You probably have the LT.

@bry2000 It is not problem if it falls above knee, most of the A.P.C once would fall above the knee. Mid-thigh too knee area.

I must admit that the Veilance is priced quite high.

Mackintosh is nice, but I don’t wear mine as much as I expected. It’s very heavy, and the weather has to be just right otherwise you’ll overheat. In those conditions I usually reach for my hooded Barbour.
