Hi everyone,
long time reader but new member on Styleforum here and this is my first post
(If sth's wrong with it or this question has already been discussed, please advise me accordingly)
My question:
What is your experience with the quality of sneakers by luxury brands like Dior, Louis Vuitton, etc. in comparison to cheaper brands like Vans, Converse, adidas, etc.
How long do they last in your experience? Do you have any experience with repairs or resoling?
I walk quite a lot in the city (like 40min to the office and back home, when it's not as hot) and figured out that my usual Vans Slip-Ons start to break down at about 500 miles and have usually one or more holes in the soles after 600 miles. Throwing them away and buying a new pair for 80 bucks or so obviously is a no-brainer then.
Now I'm in the process of building a new wardrobe and I'm eying a few luxury sneakers, especially the Dior B23 high tops. I'm trying to figure out if I can justify the 1,200$ price tag by anything else than design and branding.
As for classic shoes, I think one usually gets indeed a higher quality with a higher price tag, and above all I can repair and resole those oxfords and derbys virtually limitless, so that they can last decades, which makes 1,000$+ at least for me totally justifiable.
With sneakers on the other hand, I always considered them as a disposable product, so I don't know if I would want to pay more than 10x the price for a Chuck with a slightly nicer design and a famous name printed on it...
Looking forward to your replies!
