I think that we have evidence that @Cark is a moron. If you "bid up" the price on popular items early on, you are not having any real effect on the final price of the auction, because a bid considerably lower than the final bid, made early, is not going to motivate the final bidders, either way. If you do this at the end of the auction, then yes, you can have some effect, but then you are playing a dangerous game on a no reserve bid and when you are not in collusion with the seller, because you may easily end up with the winning bid, since it's hard to tell the exact point at which a bidder will concede.

If you try this shit on goods that are less desirable, then you will end up with the same issues as outlined above, but with an even greater chance of winning by mistake because the number of bidders will be lower, and their ceilings will also be lower.

Like any other auction you bid what you wish to pay, if @Cark want's to be a total tweeb it won't make me pay more than I had intended to nor should it for anyone else.

IMO, people like this represent that sad adult who always is placed at the children's table during a family dinner...somethings just not right with that kid.

Have you considered the possiblity that cark is just trolling and has in fact never bid on anything?

I have a couple of events coming up that would be perfect for this jacket, but have no clue how to style it. What would you match it with? Cream trousers?

I was thinking matching tuxedo trousers, but I'm afraid getting a match would be neigh on impossible... And would look like I got dressed in the dark and grabbed the wrong pants...

I'd have the same concern. I'd suggest dark, maybe mid, gray trousers that are tonally different enough to not suggest a mismatch yet still play together. Granted, that starts to look like a morning jacket setup which, for some, starts to suggest you're missing your tails...

In the end, even though this a formally styled jacket, you're going to have to treat it like an odd jacket and pair it accordingly. I'd say embrace that rather than trying to hide it with exact matching. My .02
