Luggage for weekend trips

Hey folks,


couple of bag questions incoming.

I'm in need of a bag that I can use for weekend trips and as in-cabin luggage when traveling by airplane. I used to borrow one of my parent's duffel bags (a burgundy leather one that borders on too big or a LV keepall) in the past but I need something for myself. I've been looking around and the absolute and unchangeable price limit is 1000 EUR. I'm fine with leather or (sealed) canvas (similar to what LV does, which I also don't rule out) but no nylon. I checked the threads on SF that I found with the search but I felt that most bags were ugly/inelegant. Things I've liked so far would be the Filson medium duffel bag in tan, LV Keepall, LV Carryall, Burberry weekender in Haymarket check or some generic, subdued brown leather duffel bag from a no name brand (favorably without strap) with questionable quality. What did I miss?

I'm also looking for a weekender/duffel bag for my gf. Not willing to spend more than 200 € as she usually breaks everything quite fast. Any suggestions? If it looks too classic (e.g. simple brown leather duffel bag) she's gonna say it looks boring. But I have to get her something because right now she borrows a fake LV (the kind of fake that you notice from 20m away) from a friend while she doesn't have a bag big enough for weekend visits and it makes me annoyed to have her carry it around in town so I'll rather get her something nice.

Just curious, do you have any experience with Amberg bags? I've liked their design for some time but have never seen one in person. Do you know anything about their quality?

I like it!

Anyway, get the LV keepall 55 in the Damier pattern. It is a great size, The canvas will hold up better then leather and looks nice. Only issue is that it is basically a hole. It only has one interior pocket.

I don't own one, but I actually like the LV Keepall. I think they look great when the leather gets golden colored with age. It becomes a reminder of your trips and adventures. The best part is that it is a lot lighter than a full leather bag.

I think the Glasser looks like something an obese ghetto woman from 1974 would be carrying. Filson is a joke. Only a fool would pay $200 for a $10 cotton duffle bag. I prefer dark leather like this:

Good quality and value from a small company which cares about leather.

Just picked these up for cheap, canvas & leather. Nice enough to travel with while wearing cargo shorts, cheap enough to lay down if necessary.

So I have checked all your great inputs. The RL bags are nice but a bit too sporty for my tastes. The Glaser and the Lotuff&Cleg Duffles look great, will definitively consider one of these or the LV Keepall.

Still no real clue for the gf so far, I like something like this but she might think it's to plain looking. Will ask her when she arrives later today.

LV Keepall. I know LV gets no love here but that's their staple. I mean, come on, why would you go with one of these boring bags above?

the glaser IS nice per se but it is a tad feminine. moreover, the problem is that most of these nice duffels arent very functional -- no aux pockets!! where will you keep personal media devices, pens, notebook,laptop, etc.
