LP Storm System - Cleaning Advice

I've recently purchased a coat secondhand and am seeking some cleaning advice. The outer material is Loro Piana Wool / Cashmere with their Storm System treatment and the interior of the coat has down lining. I'm very satisfied with the coat but there is a distinct (not necessarily bad) odor that rubs off on anything it touches that I attribute to the secondhand nature of the item.

The tag suggests dry clean only but a trip to the dry cleaners did nothing for the smell. Given the delicate material and down lining, I'm now considering two options for cleaning:

1. Gently handwash with a specialty cashmere soap from The Laundress. I would avoid completely submerging the coat and instead dampen the exterior and apply soap.

2. Pay up and take the coat to a specialty cleaners like Madame Paulette / Hallak / etc.

Would love to hear any suggestions or advice. Many thanks

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
