Staying at the Ritz-Carlton in Battery Park on West street and want to get some quick shopping in between meetings and such. Any advice on where to go down there? It's a quick cab to SoHo too, I know, but what's down near Wall Street?

I know 5th Ave, I want to go around Lower Manhattan. Is there anything I should see while down there.

You will be next door to C21 and a block away from Brooks.

There's a Hermès across from the NYSE.

The Brooks at Liberty Plaza is full-on useless. It's like you go in there and ask, "Excuse me, do you..." and they interrupt with "No, but you might try our location at 346 Madison." It's worth missing IMHO.

Hit 5th ave.

I think you missed the three words right after "Ritz-Carlton" in the OP...

A lot of cool vintage and fabric shops in the Lower East Side and the Soho/Noho areas - is that too far north? Noho (or is it Soho) has Duncan Quinn on Spring Street. Elizabeth Street is nice with Seize sur Vingt and some interesting consignment shops.

Yes, there's a lot of good stuff in the area East of Broadway and South of Houston, which is known as NoLiTa. "NoHo" is North of Houston, or so they say. Cruise down Mulberry, Back up Mott, and back down Elizabeth. Check the side streets too; Prince and Spring.

+1 on Leffot too, but that's in the West Village, though if you're in the WV, head down Bleeker St. and if you can see past all the Marc Jacobs stores, you can find some cool stuff.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
