Anybody else taking testosterone supplements? I've been on Axiron for a few days now and I am already seeing incredible improvements in my energy levels and my mood.

Back story - for the past few years I have been feeling low-level depression that I assumed was because of the stress of grad school and then three years of living away from my family for my job. However, even after getting a great job back in Phoenix, and living with my family again, I still felt unfulfilled. Additionally, it has impacted my intimate relations with my wife.

So, since my new job allowed me to pick a new doctor, I chose one who specializes in hormonal issues and went in for a complete checkup and blood tests. I found out that although I exercise and am active, my test levels were quite low, along with my Vitamin D and Vitamin B levels. Now, I am using Axiron, testosterone, and then I will go back in six weeks for more blood tests to see where I am and what effects the drug are having.

However, as I said, in just a few days my energy level has increased dramatically and mentally I feel better than I have in years. It's almost like one of those things where you don't realize how much your energy level had decreased until you feel better.

Anyone else have experience with this?

Burning easily can be a sign of vitamin D deficiency, which in turn can contribute to testosterone deficiency.

Is there an explanation for the various deficiencies? That ought to be a concern.

I don't burn easily but the Vitamin D is likely because of a desk job and not drinking enough milk. Vitamin B is related to the low T and the low T is probably because of age. I'm not worried but it will be interesting to see where my levels are when I go back for follow-up tests in May. Gotta say though I am still really amazed at the increase in my energy levels and my improved mental state. I feel like a teenager again!

The Arizona sun isn't enough to keep your Vitamin D levels up, or are you indoors mostly?

I spent the last three years in Sacramento and have only been back in Arizona for just over 6 months, so that could have something to do with it. Plus, I think this doctor is a fan of having really high Vit D levels, so having low levels according to her may actually be more like normal.

Low vitamin D is very common in Arizona since most take sun protection so seriously, direct quote from my MD.

Dear Bradford,

You might consider alternative medicine. I would never rely on just one diagnosis. Depression is psychic, and you remain dependent on the body as well as a powerful hormonal substitute. Be careful.

It's sure as hell not psychic. After nearly a year of being on testosterone, I am still amazed at how much better I feel. No fog, much better outlook on life. Plus, I've seen incredible improvements in my ability to gain muscle and recover from workouts which is fun in my mid-40s.

And my libido is back to where it was when I was a teenager :)

I don't have experience with the hormone you take. The fact you ask in your own thread if anyone has experience with it means you begin to reflect about it. By all means you should find out more about it, and I hope you keep up your research.

Dude - you do realize that this thread is nearly a year old and I posted it after just a few days on this prescription. Do you really think I haven't done research over the past year, along with evaluating my own experience.

I'm glad you've done some reading on the subject, but I think I'll stick with my doctor who specializes in this field and who runs blood tests on me several times a year to ensure that my treatment isn't causing negative side effects.

Thanks for the concern though.

When I said depression is psychic(al), I did not mean that its cause cannot be organic. I meant that depression is the name for what is emotion, mental image, etc., which is observable by introspection. Depression like pain can have its cause in the biological, but depression or suffering can also have their causes in the mental sphere. Again, it may be that depression has its cause in the mentak, but can be suppressed by substances which effect changes in the physical, for example psychopharmacy, many, many drugs change bodily states and indirectly states of consciousness.

I never said I have done reading. The only thing I read was your thread. I'm surprised you have trust in only one medical doctor's diagnosis and therapy in a situation which means you will probsbly have a relapse if yoz discontinue the hormone. Your solution to your problem means you must have the hormone. This is convenient for your specialist. So both of you are happy as long as all conditions remain constant.

PS: I also never said anything about what you have done or not done, as far as research on your health condition and the hormone treatment is concerned. I only pointed out that your thread asking for contact with persons who have experience with the same kind of situation means you begin to reflect on it. You are a patient who wants to exchange with other patients. That's very important. No less important in my opinion is to discuss your situation with other healers, but of course, one must be aware that some are only interested in exploitation for their own financial enrichment and encourage you to try their therapies.

I'm sorry about all these doubles and triples of my posts. I tried to quote, but I see I misunderstood the procedure and have multiplied everything. Hopefully, what I wrote isn't an unnecessary multiplication of your situation.

He has a point - the medical community probably does not know whether long-term testosterone therapy is safe. Think of the information that has come out about long-term estrogen therapy. One possibility is the body reacting badly if therapy were ended in not a precise way. There are other ways to boost T, such as vitamin D, zinc, some kinds of exercise, and more/better sleep.
