Lovely Lavender: How To Match

I just bought a couple of cool lavender sweaters. I've never worn this color before. What colors are good complements? Most of my jackets are either dark brown, black or tan. These colors don't seem to be natural complements.

What color jackets can I throw on over my sweaters? This seems a bit trickier than with my dark navy, brown and grey sweaters.

As far as shirts underneath the sweater, I'm not sure what else works besides a white shirt: t, polo or dress shirt. Maybe a black shirt?

Personally, I'm a big fan of pairing lavender and most other purples with olive.

A navy jacket (if you have one) would look good over a lavender sweater.

As for a shirt underneath, I would avoid anything darker than the sweater.

Grays are the safest bet. Tan would be my next pick, followed by olive. It really depends on the shade of lavender.

+1

I really like the look of charcoal with lavender if you want to highlight the lavender. Browns and lavender appear richer, though the contrast isn't as strong. Brown, lavender, and chocolate suede shoes.

+2 for chocolate suede shoes. Norcal and I are of one mind.

Cream or ecru might work well for shirt / t -shirt color. Lavender should bring out the yellow. Watch out for too many in the "pastel" range at one time or you'll get comments about "the Easter bunny."
