Perhaps a sign that modern bourgeois life is too complicated-- a few years back, when the lottery prize was approaching a half billion, I played the same game. To my surprise, the first thing that popped into my tired head was getting a new, clean, but totally anonymous car-- like a Jetta or Ford Fusion.

Literally pointed these out to my friend today, with the phrase "lottery win" included, walking down Madison:



She asked, "Aren't there better things you could do with that much money?"

I came back with "Sure, but I'd do those too."

Upon reflection, I've decided that Lobbs are probably about the middle of the range of things I'd do if I had too much money -- somewhere between "collect emerging artists" and "pay acquaintances to let me hunt them with a paintball gun."

In terms of Classic Menswear, I'd get clothes from Chris Despos and shoes from Perry Ercolino.

I honestly wouldn't be very excited about the clothing possibilities that a lottery win would bring. The only thing I could never imagine commissioning without having money by the bucketload is to have some world-class mill make me my individual cloths. Like that story of the Japanese businessman who ordered some 70 meters of cloth just to have one suit made up, and then kept the rest for interior decoration.
