Lost Radio Code...any help?

Ugh, did some work on our ancient Ford Escort and now the radio is asking for the 4-digit security code. I could have sworn we'd written it down somewhere, but...it's gone. And the mechanics say they can figure it out, but it'll cost 30 euros. Screw that. Does anybody have any ideas? Maybe a free website where you can look it up (I've found a few, but they're all pay sites)? Or can I re-set it somehow?

I don't know about the UK, but in Australia all you have to do is take the car to your local Ford dealership/service point and show some identification and registration papers. The dealer support staff should have access to a database of radio security codes.

It came in very useful when we sold my wife's Ford last year, as I had the OEM radio re-installed but had no idea what the security code for it was.

I didn't have to pay for it - it was done quickly and easily with no request for a fee.

In a Toyota, you just press the button...

Really, I have no idea.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. Journeyman, I didn't even think of contacting a local dealership--I'll definitely try that.
