So I was watching Gossip Girl, which is besides the point, and in the wedding scene at the end of season one I noticed this strange loop at the back of chuck bass's dinner jacket. i thought it strange, but then noticed that nate's chalk stripe jacket had the same thing.

have people seen these before? explanations and thoughts welcome

The loop is used to hang the jacket on a hook.

That's not normal. Locker loop should be on the inside not the outside of the jacket.... Unless it is some kind of new style statement

No. Tom Browne puts that fakakta shirt fruit loop on everything he does for Brooks Brothers Black Fleece, including the backs of shoes (which we can assume are not meant to hang from a hook.)

It's a signature design affection.

Thank you FC for your comment, I was only taking a calculated guess, and would have imagined that tags be functional.

I think you meant to say is :-

It's a signature design affectation.

and what i would have said is :-

It's an unnecessary signature design affectation.

with respect.

It's a pop culture experiment to see if it ends up on the back of every blazer released by generic high street shops later this year.

years ago, boot style dress shoes all had this loop.
its there to pull the boot on without using a shoe horn.

Good luck getting a finger through Mr. Browne's version, and then getting purchase to pull on your shoe without a horn.

On another note, does anyone else get called 'Chuck Bass' by people who watch the show on account of the way they dress? I don't know if it's a good thing or not.
