Looking to buy a suit in the Philadelphia area

Any Philadelphians around?

Here's the dilemma. I'm attending a wedding in the near future and want to buy a suit. I'll probably use the suit for other occasions as well but that's not the problem.

I'm looking for a nice slim fit fashionable looking suit like the one in the picture. Doesn't have to be this brand but I want something that fits me like it. I'm a skinny guy (~115lbs., 5'8") and any suit I buy around my area (central PA) looks like a box on me. I was told the closest place to get a fashionable suit would be Philadelphia. So what are some good stores where I can buy a similar suit and get it tailored to fit me? My price range is around $1000. Any help?

Try on as many different fits and styles as you can and see what works for you. Sometimes you can really have a rare find. Also, H&M is easy on the pockets and the one in center city is not bad, and has many different choices. Lastly, try Brooks Brothers on Walnut. On sale, you can have some really good deals. Their 1818 line is pretty slim. Good luck.

These are good suggestions. Wayne Edwards would be too expensive. Boyd's on Chestnut street might have something you like, and the alterations tailors are quite good. Generally, though, their suits will be less fashion-forward. Another idea might J Crew, which is at Liberty Place and so close to the center city H&M. Banana republic might also be an option. In suburbs, Bloomingdale's might yield a Boss suit at a good price. Thick as Thieves is far superior to these options, but you'll need to check out their time frame for orders.

Take a trip to Boyds; there's a huge selection of suits. Also, try the Black Label suits at Ralph Lauren and the Brooks Brothers 1818 "Fitzgerald". If you get it tailored like the pics, however, expect a 3AM "visit" from a random SFer.

The bloomingdales at King of Prussia had Boss black and red label suits for 795, with a 25% discount, then another $100 off, on Wednesday (9/24/08). I'm not sure if the sale is still going on, but you could try giving them a call. They also have Canali, Joseph Abboud, Burberry suits and some Theory separates that were all part of the sale. It's too bad that they didn't have RL Black Label there, which I heard was included in the same Bloomingdales sale. I ended up picking up Theory separates for ~$350 total.

I'll second the TaT option. I just got one and it only required minor tweaking at the tailor to get it to fit very well.

Boyd's is nice but expensive. Normally they have sales a few times a year, in which case their prices come down from high to just reasonable. If you need a suit for an upcoming wedding, you may not have time to wait for their next sale.

I just got a gray RLBL suit at the Ralph Lauren store in Philly. It was expensive but the tailoring is free. I went in after it was tailored and the butt in the pants was still a little too full so they tailored it again for me. The second time I went back for it, it was perfect. Service was great and now I have the perfect suit that is cut to within an inch of my life. Plenty slim with a lower rise in the pants, very modern looking suit.
