What are your recommendations for comfortable drivers under $200 or so? I've tried the sperry gold cup and cole haan and each hasn't lasted very long (sort of my go-to casual shoe in the summer).

Not sure if this fits best in MC or SW&D... Sue me if it's been covered recently. Still figuring out the new format.

The always wear out quickly : [
Even Tod's and Car Shoe, which are suppose to be the zenith of the style, get worn down quickly. I suppose this is because they're not intended for 'heavy-duty' use.

Maybe a pair of Tod's but with a different sole? A pair of mine has a Vibram sole, looks a bit clunky but lasts a lot longer than the normal rubber studded soles.

Ralph Lauren polo have some nice colours in the Herrington Catalogue
Also check out fins if you want bright coloured suede.

As you know, they won't last like a pair of double soled longwings but either of these will be more robust than tods with their little pimples. You want to at least get some with a rubber sole. I also have some nice venetians in pebble grain from HS Trask.

As already stated, drivers don't last for long. Personally, I buy a pair every summer. Plus, drivers don't build character or patina over time.....they just look worn out.

I've been pleasantly surprised by the JCrew Millbrook, Cole Haan Grant, and Prada drivers thus far. I just bought another pair of the CH Grant in navy suede..........very comfortable and look good with anything.

    Hope this helps.

Ralph Lauren signature line (these used to be under purple label) make some super comfortable drivers that can often be found cheap on yoox or neiman marcus.

Seems to be the consensus. As soon as they're broken in they're gross. Here are some Sperry's for $80. I could wear them for a few months...

those aren't quite drivers, but if they fit the bill then why not?

I pick-up all mine on sale, so I rarely spend more than $75 on them.

I've been wearing a pair of Fossils for the last few months. Unfortunately they aren't made any more (too bad because they've held up very well). Does anyone have any recommendations for something that looks like a driving shoe but with a rubber-covered tip and tougher sole.

Weird, I started this thread and have been through 3 pair since.

Just bought these over the weekend:

Cole Haan Howland Penny. Found for $100 at Zappos:

ETA: Do NOT buy those Sperry's I pictured above; they stink to high-hell after a couple months.

Yeah the rubber soles on Arfango are definitely more durable that Tod's and CS, but aesthetically less pleasing though
