If the amount is listed in Yen, you're looking about 1500.00.

I like the oracle as well. I saw these, which remind me of a boot I was thinking of getting bespoke, to match the double monks.

I know Maftei could probably make me some for less, and probably at similar quality. BUT UNOBTANIUM is so sweet. And so much easier on the wallet. I saw Maftei shoes live in Berlin, stunning shoes

"Atelier Fasan" an der Fasanenstraße 28, they make stunning bespoke shirts.

Like the word-creation.

Speed, I think this is the point. If you wanna find out, you've to explore things. Honestly, we are privileged in Europe to have so many artisans at hand. Good to hear about your experience in Berlin.

Did you visit Posh?

That other store on Kudam (Budapestler?) left me TOTALY cold, nothing that peaked the interest at all. KDW had some nice Dinkelakers in shell, but the triple sole and goyser was a bit ott. Think I might have a google map somewhere ...

I wasn't aware of "Atelier Fasan's" history. Good read in German: "Berliner Zeitung";

and an update on "Impressions of Vienna", in the LL;

Sator said:

"Curiously, Balint does not believe in trial shoes. They don't feel they are useful and will make a new pair up free of charge if the first pair fail to fit."

SJM said:

Absolutely true -- my pair fit reasonably well but were still slightly off in a few areas -- yet still wearable. When I showed them to Mr. Balint Sr. he was utterly horrified -- remeasured me -- corrected the last and is in the process of remaking the shoes from scratch -- which should hopefully show up in the mail in the next little bit. A refreshing change from the incessant whining I had to endure from one English shoemaker whose shoes never fit.

Balint shoes have the best make of any shoes I have seen to date -- and if the ill-fitting pair were anything to judge by, the fit will be perfect.

Will provide an update when the new pair show up.

BTW, I have had excellent results with Maftei -- lower in price and definately not as well made as Balint -- but an excellent shoe at a great price + the Maftei family are a dream to deal with.

My Materna last needs much greater tweaking -- will see them when I am in Vienna next -- Mr. Materna assures me they can fix any issues and if needed, re make the shoes.

+1. I'm not dealing with Maftei directly, but through a German professor, and the process is smooth and responsive. jjjjeremy, where do you live? We can order Maftei in Boston.
