Looking for a D-pocket horse hide jacket!?

Hi!

I'm looking for a D-pocket horse hide leather jacket that isn't tea-core.

I have been searching online but can't find any.

I won't be riding in the jacket, it's strictly for fashion.

Do you have any ideas?? Thanks!

The "tea core" thing definitely gets cringeworthy, particularly those jackets that are designed to look older in one month than my actual 70 year old jackets do.

There are plenty of options. How much are you looking to spend?

I don't know? I have about €2000 saved up so I guess that's my budget.

With that budget maybe look at Double Helix.

Real McCoy is probably over €2k.

I suggest to go to Fedora Lounge too, although they’re more into vintage ones.

The double helix innovator is tea core. I don't want that. The same with real McCoys.

If I'm buying an expensive horse hide jacket I want it to keep its colors.

Honestly after a few years with them I’ve come to find the Japanese leather jackets largely underwhelming. The patterning tends to be poor, not least because the fashion magazines there promote a strange tight shoulders baggy waist fit, and they’re usually dominated by gimmicks like fast ageing leather.

You do have a lot of options. Aero is usually the go to for a wide range of leather and classic American styles though their prices recently went up.

You should check out Lewis Leathers as well; their style is their own, based on their products from midcentury British motorcycling.

There are a ton of cool makers within Europe too like this German workshop Wildfang Design.

Aero is the default answer. Plenty of leather options. Field Leathers also has a beautiful one, but the lead time is about a year. Thedi, Vanson, Lost Worlds. So many options at that budget. Check out Fedoralounge to really go down the rabbit hole.

The main issue I’ve seen with japanese designs is that tend to be overly long, but that’s a preference thing.

No the Japanese fashion has gone beyond that now. The current (for a few years now) trendy look is to be long but also make the jacket extremely wide at the bottom, so the jacket ends up having a bell shape. It’s not flattering on anyone.

I guess it depends on the maker, my last two japanese jackets (Addict and Electric Leather Studio, both from the past year) certainly don’t do that so I guess we can’t put them all in the same bucket.

Oh neither of those do that. I’m not saying all Japanese makers are bad; I’m referring to the ones close to the fashion magazine scene.

Think Fountainhead, Fine Creek, etc. Recently saw Strum which is particularly hideous.

Yep FCL is this forum’s darling (over at FL it’s much more divisive) but I never thought that their patterns were any good. I once dared to mention in the leather jackets thread that I thought they did marketing really well (I’d dare say the aging in the jackets they use for their photos is not 100% natural) and that that was key to their success and I was eaten alive lol.

Same thing happened to me lol.

And their dealers in the US basically try to gaslight you into saying the jackets look good even if they don’t. I saw their Perfecto knockoff and the collar/lapel were more lifeless than a surplus store special.
