I am trying to find a quality black silk self-tie bow tie that is a little larger than average size (not neck size but in bow dimension).
Anyone know where I can get one? I have a brooks brothers self tie that is 2.5 inches in width and looking for something larger that is 2.75 inches or so. Barneys had a larger Prada bow tie about 3 months ago, but it sold out. Ralph Lauren website does not specify it's dimensions, neither does Turnbull and Asser. Damn this skinny tie trend.

The majority of bow ties sold today are modfied butterfly or 'thistle' bow ties. Sounds like you're looking for a classic butterfly shaped tie. J. Press sells one at their NYC store (but not online) - fairly certain that its at least 2.75".

Hi there Mr. Aaron
I can only tell you of my experience, as I have a large neck size I went on line and typed in "BOW TIES" in
either Google or M/S browser Bing and checked the sites listed as either advertised or show up as results. When
you check the sites (spend a little time doing so) you will see that some of the sites are really great with filtering as to color, style pattern, size, etc. You will soon see that some are first class sites others are basic info. I always tend to stay with the more sophisticated ones as they usually are mored detailed, some show you the neck sizes that the BT are designed to fit (as
I have a large size this is critical) as you don't want to get a BT that wont knot correctly or a pre-tied that is too tight and choking.
Always check the dimensions of the selected one that you want. I have also (cant remember the name of the site) run into a
site that had larger BT end's either diamond or flush cut straight. I hope that I helped you, I wish you luck let us know how you make out on your quest.Regards.

You could email Ellie Leveer @ the Cordial Churchman. I think that most of her business is MTO at reasonable prices, so even though the site shows 2.5" as the biggest size, I bet she'd make a bigger custom tie for you.

Bow Ties Ltd, of Vermont (http://www.beautiesltd.com/), offers a Butterfly/Jumbo option, that's 3.5" high. It's available for their "Carbon Black" bow tie (woven silk), and their Black Charmeuse bow tie, both around $45.

Maine Bow Ties (http://www.mainebows.com) offers a style called "Highliner," that's 2.75" high, a "Maverick" style that comes in at 3', and finally "Dad's Tie" is 3.5". Their "Black-Out" bow tie is black, silk, no sheen, can be had in self-tie, and in all three of the aforementioned styles. It runs $30. I have a couple of ties from Maine Bow Ties, and they're of good quality.

Maine Bow Ties will even let you design your own bow tie. Whatever size, length, or shape you want. Whatever fabric they have, or you can send them your own fabric. $30. (This is an excellent deal.)
