all right.. bought something new, need suggestions on what color trousers you recommend I wear it with. Â good for spring summer, i think, 100% lightweight wool. Â I'm a big fan of brioni, looking forward to getting functional buttonholes on the sleeves. [IMG]

Beautiful -- I love that color blue (and the nice subtle windowpane). I could see wearing that with ripped up jeans, khakis, gray flannels.... It's more casual than navy blue, but still very versatile I think.

    Ebay?

    Foxx,

It is my experience that expensive new clothes and shoes can actually talk. The first time that you leave that blazer alone in the house with your wife, I am certain it will starting shouting at her from the closet, "Look what Foxx bought. Look what Foxx bought."

I agree that a cream colored trouser would look very nice. White would look good as well, if you could pull that off (I couldn't, and wouldn't want to).

    "Is this new?"

"This? No. I've had that for years."

"Really? I don't remember seeing it on you."

"Well, it's a little esoteric, so I don't wear it that often. Besides, admit it: you often have a hard time telling one suit from another."

"But it looks completely perfect and spotless and unwrinkled."

"Of course it does. I buy good stuff and take good care of it."

    "Hmmm ...."

    "Let's go out to dinner."

Don't wear it with khaki's or anything khaki colored; it would disservice the jacket. I mean you could do it, but it would look unsophistocated.

White trousers would work better, particularly in gaberdine. You'd look like a million bucks.

Also try experimenting with Nantucket red trousers (might work), grass green, and summer greys. White jeans would make a great summer look.

    Caution... Remove ticket first...

Also, kinda reminds me of a joke Dad used to say about the guy that would show up at the blind dates house and if the girl was bad looking he would feign an asthma attack and excuse himself, which works well until he shows up at a girls house ans she is stunning...and at the door upon looking at him, she has an asthma attack...

Point is... Look for tell tale signs that she might be employing the same trick in her own way.

    Nice blazer, enjoy.

I think cream colored mediates between the type of khaki Mike C. has in mind as the white gabardine that he proposed. I think Mike is right to the extent that a much softer, less yellow color is what this coat calls for.

I just went through that drill. Suffice it to say that some spouses don't fall for the old Jedi mind trick.

The wife-story hurdle is easier if you buy something used on EBay -- you can honestly say, "this old thing?; no, it isn't new -- it's at least 2 or 3 years old."

Try also picking up the darker stripe in the overcheck with some caramel colored slacks. White or ecru shirt.

And no, we DON'T fall for it. But we let it pass (and bank it away in that amazing memory) until we wish to reciprocate with like deed.

Medium grey trousers would work well.

How do you "smuggle" in new shoes ? I can pull off the clothing but I always get busted on the damn shoes.

    Just like the purloined letter...

    Hide them in plain sight.
