I will be in London next week for five days.
Are Sales 'done'?
Is Jermyn Street worth a visit - (specifically C&J) ?
Any tips greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Most sales are still ongoing. Harrods end their sale on Saturday 24th, which I think they have brought forward from the previous close of Tuesday 27th. Anybody know why? There still seemed to be a fair amount of decent sale stock remaining last Saturday when I was there, e.g. a rack of E. Zegna Couture range silk/cashmere sport coats at 50% off (although still priced at a very steep £930). The Harvey Nichols sale, while still nominally in progress, is virtually over as they have mostly restocked with the new collections. Those are the bigger stores that carry various brands/labels. The smaller shops will probably continue their sales onto the end of January.

Since October I've been working in Canary Wharf so I'm somewhat out of touch with the current state of Jermyn St and surrounding areas. Hopefully some of the other forum members located in London can bring us up-to-date.

Oh, and a warm welcome to our country!

The C&J store on Jermyn St was a bit of a mess and very busy last weekend as was Trickers, EG was much quieter. The Burlington Arcade C&J was quieter.

Harrods sale used to start very late I have noticed that it started earlier this year maybe that is why it finishes earlier.

Many shops still have sales but the best bargains are all gone. I found the New and Lingwood and Ede and Ravenscroft sales to still have some pieces worth buying.

Most of the shops that I visited around the Jermyn Street and Bond Street area appeared to have a decent stock of sale items when I was there on Monday. I could not tell you when the sales end, though. Harrods still had a good number of sale stock, but Liberty did not. I did not make it to either Harvery Nichols or Selfridges. Other stores around town seemed to have varying amounts of sale items still available, but I got the impression that sales were winding down.

If you buy, hestitate before you buy. I only say this because, in my experience, some of the shoes on sale are not 'top notch' - not seconds, but not the best 'perfect', if you know what I mean. A shop assistant at Crockett and Jones mentioned that he only puts the "Villiers" on sale if they 'are not 100%'. May be the case with other Handgrades, don't know. It's easy to miss things in the general weekend sale scramble. I looked in at Tricker's and tried on a "Bourton" brogue - chestnut was fairly dull in colour. The shop assistant quickly said 'I can look for another if you like'. Suspect that this shoe was in the not best perfect category too. It's a bit difficult to tyake them back and exchange them if you're in the US - impossible if you've worn them out.
