Logistics of winter business appointments in Manhattan

Some questions here might be painfully obvious, but (and forgive the cliche) I've never been to Manhattan in the winter.

I need to bus into Manhattan from Boston and go to several professional appointments in midtown and downtown over two days. I need to dress really conservatively and have just one suit to work with. However, I saw the weather go to hell today, and Boston streets have turned to slush.

I'm not sure about the condition of Manhattan streets in winter, but what advice might you guys have?

For example, should I have boots on while moving around and just change into black cap toes when I arrive? (Hopefully, reception/security is sympathetic.) Or should I change into suit trousers only when I arrive as well?

Also, is it not advisable to bus in on a cold winter morning when there was heavy rain the day before, and the roads may be icy? (Though I imagine busing in the night before is not advisable, either.)

Finally, should I take a wool duffle coat or forget any pretense of looking sharp and take a cold weather, waterproof parka?

Today is a bit of an outlier. Most days you will be fine with whatever you would wear in the rain. Wiorst case scenario, take boots and change when you get to the building. This is done with sufficient frequency.

You mean change just shoes, or change pants and shoes? (I assume you mean shoes?)

Personally, for anything less than 6 inches of snow, I'd just go with rubber overshoes, like Totes. I just wore them today for the first time in years, and it's so much easier than wearing boots and having to tote around and change into shoes, especially if you'll be tooling around to various locations all day, as opposed to being parked in your own office.

Buy rubber overshoes like Totes and take them off in the lobby of the building. Put them in a plastic bag in your briefcase, and it's all good.

Don't listen to these guys. You should change pants, too. Preferably in the reception area of the office you are visiting. Extra points if the receptionist is attractive.
