Locking heel in place in of an engineer boot

I reached the conclusion that heel slippage in my engineer boot could be mitigated by tightening the instep strap. Because I’m already using the last hole, I would need to punch additional hole to tighten the strap.

Has anyone punched holes into the instep strap before by themselves ? Any tips to to share?

leather punches are not expensive but I'd recommend that you just take them to a shoe repair shop -- they will be able to do it at minimal cost.
