Chuckie, I am not sure that people will be queuing up to express their horror at the biro marks on you shoes. There are probably a few other things that you could be worrying about. Best wishes, Munky. [IMG]

Thank you Munky. I wonder if scribbling on the shoe is a way of marking the number of times the shoes have been repaired? But I shall live with it as you advise and try not to be OCD :)

Don't forget that you now have a unique pair of Loake's, 'signed by the company', itself! [IMG]

First day wearing the new Loake Hyde boots.

More comfortable break in than I expected. So far at least. I plan on walking into town next.
And strangely, a more roomy fit than my Strands on the same last.
Had thought I'd have trouble wearing thick socks with these, but am now wondering if a pair of insoles would work better.

Yes, I am interested in this model, I think it must be a great boot at a good price.

It looks great, I heard Loake 1880 calf can be a bit stiff, is this true?

So...I'm now living in Paris, and my last two pairs of Allen Edmonds (MacNeil and Dalton boot) are getting a little bit shabby. AE is basically my price range ($300-400), and with shipping and potential customs hit it's not really worth it to buy from here. (In a more wealthier life I'd be an Alden and Vass man...)

I've poked around a bit and think that Loake 1880s or Herring Classic Range might fit the bill. For those who own both AE and Loake 1880s, is there a significant quality difference either way? Doesn't seem like there's a consensus in the thread except that perhaps AE uses slightly better quality leather. In that case, are there Loake leathers to avoid? The Burford suede boot is really tempting...

Nope, they are pretty equal with regards to quality. Loake suede quality is decent; my friend is very happy with his three year old beater Pimlicos - which I actually restored last week and are now looking like new after uncountable beers spilled on them.

Fopr the price range you mentioned I would also check out Carmina. Great shoes, and I would say they are definitely a step or two above AE. Skoaktiebolaget is a great place to buy them from as well.

I experienced the same with my Pimlico's, which are also on the capital last, it's far roomier than the Strand.

I'm trying to find a pair of Otterburn cheaper than the £200-220 price.
Anyone got any tips or promo codes for the uk? Thanks

Certainly not with the Hyde, although, as with any boot this high, it does rub your legs a bit until it breaks in.
The soles are thin though. That's the one issue I have right now. On;y worn them one day so far.

The mystery tweed trousers came from the "thrift exchange" over on AAAC. All the way from a seller in Texas.
Great condition and perfect size. No brand or tags on them at all.

If you're thinking of the Burford boot in suede, have a look at the Loake Factory Outlet store on ebay.

    £120.
    I'm tempted myself.
