Wondering which would pair better with chinos and a bow tie for a dress casual, pre-prom event. If loafers, what kind? If wingtips, how much brogueing should I go for? I'm one of the younger teachers that has a reputation for bold choices, so I'm not looking to play it safe in case that helps give you an idea of my personality. Appreciate any helpful feedback!

Are you wearing a jacket? If you're wearing chinos, I would probably go with loafers of the penny variety...and it pains me to say that because I don't like loafers.

Same - not a personal fan of loafers, but with chinos and a bowtie, it would fit the very preppy/American East Coast traditional choices you are making.

Is that a bad thing? (Seriously asking)

Well...it's not a..bad..thing per se but it's more of whether you will blend in or stand out in a bad way.

And I personally prefer loafers as I do live in north east and I'm young + hate brogues + hate many loafers too

Not at all, I just don't prefer them, personally. But my style would be very different from yours.

Another vote for loafers. As a young guy, you'll also wear them more.

I also say you should go with the loafers. They're very versatile, so you could dress them up and down. Not to mention, I personally find them more comfortable. If you're feeling particularly ostentatious, I say you go double bow tie and pick a Belgian loafer (a loafer with a bow tie near the toe).
