What is the:

1. most formal occassion/outfit you'd wear loafers

2. least formal occassion/outfit you'd wear loafers

I'm thinking black, moderately stylish but not extreme, but feel to specify your own loafer characteristics if you'd like.

1. Black-tie. Gucci loafers with the little horse-bit are, apparently, acceptable. I wore them to a lounge dress formal event (dinner and dancing) some time back, with no regrets.

2. While otherwise totally naked. So my feet don't get cold on the porno set...

1. none

2. none, I'd go barefeet instead . . .

My opinion is a little biased though, I dislike loafers and don't own any for that matter, I actually find them a clumsy excuse for shoes, an unfair comment, I know. . . .

I don't like loafers much. Let's face it, they are popular because of old men who would rather not bend over to tie their shoes.

I would wear them on a boat, with linen pants though. But only in brown.

NOw when you say loafers I'm sure you aren't including driving loafers. IN that case, there is little chance I would be caught dead in a pair. However, I'm 22 not 45 so things may change with time.

I don't know why everyone is so down on the loafer. For those of us who dress business casual every day w/ odd trousers and no jacket, they are a staple. I would never wear them with a suit, but I must say I do love a pair of driving loafers with shorts (no socks). You just can't go to nice places with open toes, even if you are eating outside.

You mean pumps, no?

Most "tuxedo shoes" these days are lace up patent leather shoes, IMHO, Manton is likely to comment at this juncture . . .

i agree as well. i would definitely wear gucci bit loafers in black to a black tie. i think it would definitely be fun and stand out in the crowd in a good way.

2. i wore my ferragamo rubber soled bit loafers with a tshirt and cargo shorts several times.
it dont look to bad, plus the bit loafers in rubber sole are more comfortable than my sneakers.

What's wrong with lace-ups . . .

I was wearing fairly full-cut trousers, so all you saw when I was standing was the apron, polished to a high shine. When I sat down, the bits became evident, for a little bit of "how do you do ma'am" surprise...

I have loafers in suede, croc, calf and linen/canvass, if you count espadrilles. They're a great casual look but not a good choice if a lot of walking is on the itinerary.

1. None.
2. Shorts and Polo Shirt weekend wear. Work well with jeans.
