I have worn them one time. The upper does roll like shell. The reason why I questioned it is that a pretty comprehensive shell model list online says 7803 is shell but this pair is 7805. Actually I found a pair of 7803 on a Japanese vintage shoe website and they do seem to be calf...
Also I have never seen any shell like the pic #6 here...
