I just ordered an LL Bean Norwegian sweater.

For several years, Bean has discontinued selling it.

This Norwegian Sweater will be made by the same vendor as the original. (From a blog I learned that "advances in wool technology since the sweaters origins in the 70s allow the sweater to be made entirely out of wool, with no addition of Rayon." That's good news!

The cost was $129. A bit steep for a sweater, but it will last forever. My original sweater was stolen several years ago.

The Norwegian Sweater is not online--yet. But one can order it via telephone. At first, the person, with whom I spoke, did not know what I was talking about but she found the sweater.

This style seems poised for a big comeback this winter. Barney's, Saks and others are showcasing a very similar version by Woolrich John Rich and Bros. I recently pulled my own Bean Norwegian out of storage - 20 years old and still sturdy as ever. Does anyone know if the new one is knit the same. Mine is pretty boxy with huge arm holes.

Yeah. They are still as sturdy as ever. When the Norwegians do things, it is always good. Things are extremely expensive in that country so they can not afford to produce bad stuff.

I would expect the quality to be there; but is the fit any slimmer, higher arm holes, etc.?

Yea, you would think that Norwegian fisherman must watch Mad Men and read The Sartiorialist when they are done mending their nets.

I was in a very warm library reading room and had taken the sweater off and laid it on the back of my chair. I had to go to the stacks, and when I returned, it was gone. When I finally got around to ordering a new sweater, I learned that Bean no longer sold them. I am pleased that their new sweater is made by the original maker and that it will be all wool.

Yes, by phone. From my original post: "The Norwegian Sweater is not online--yet. But one can order it via telephone. At first, the person, with whom I spoke, did not know what I was talking about but she found the sweater."

I believe it will be available online in November.

For what it is worth, the catalog number on the confirmation e-mail sent by LL Bean was "59266ZZ". That was for a medium size.

What are the features of a norwegian sweater? Are they warmer than a scottish fisherman sweater?
