Living in London

Whats it like? Might be moving there by summer's end.

Excited to finally get to watch the cricket and both rugby codes again.

Don't really go out anymore, would prefer access to cheap restaurants, rent may be taken care of.

I know I'd have to give up my plants which I'm not excited about.

This. London can vary quite a lot. Used to live in West Kensington/Hammersmith which was quite pleasant, decent local pubs and restaurants and easy access to the river, Chelsea and the centre of town.

Circumstances have now forced me to live in Beckenham, which is barely London at all and is the epitome of suburban mediocrity. While not necessarily bad, it has only one positive quality and that's that a train into town takes 20 minutes.

London can be very patchy though, with nice areas next to pretty rough ones. A lot of places aren't necessarily that bad though.

Have a few cousins in Maida Vale. Also a friend in Moorgate just by the Thames. Those seem to be quite nice areas.

The places where I'd want to live in London are outrageously expensive. All of them.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm living in London two months this summer. I got an apartment near the Hoxton tube station.

Is this a suitable place for a 21 year old? Any cool restaurants/bars/clubs around there I should know about?

either way ive always wanted to go to london. if you do go safe travels and godspeed.

Awesome and at times truly disturbing.
I lived in Islington ( North London), for 9 years - only a stones throw from Highbury (Arsenals home ground). If you can put up with the shite weather, a lot of the year, it has a lot to offer.
An abundance of great restaurants and produce ( both affordable and insanely expensive), cultural diversity, a great cultural centre etc. Oh and if you wake up on Saturday morning and fancy dinner in Paris it is easy to do. Cheap flights to a lot of the secondary European cities on the Budget airlines also.
Did I mention the shopping?
It can be hellishly expensive, though it sounds as though you are covered on that front.
We purchased our place in 2000 and Sold at the height in 06'.
