@riverflow Thank you so much for the kind words! So true, the supply chain is such a nightmare. This brand has been built with sweat equity the whole way (imagine economy flights to Paris leather fair, Airbnb and countless of hours smelling freshly vegetable tanned leather in the search for perfection). 1.5 years in the making! Excited to finally launch and see if we get orders!

@OzzyJones Thank you for bumping us - incredible how welcoming this community has been!

This is really interesting; I have been looking for a good quality portfolio for some time. Could I ask for a couple of more close-up pics of the black portfolio or bag in natural sunlight? Also great to hear that the company is half Norwegian! :)

What's this early bird deal you mentioned in the original post?

Do you have any product shots that show the inside of the briefcase?

Also are you planning any type of return policy for the kickstarter? I know that the nature of Kickstarter means that one is donating to your project and not making a formal "purchase," but having the ability to make a return would provide a little extra piece of mind.

@cbfn Hei! =) Sure thing, will take some pictures this weekend for you:)

@tropics noted. Will make sure it becomes a part of our product roadmap in the near future! Thanks!

    @aravenel Thank you!

@PipersSon Awesome that you are interested. If you want to stay informed sign up to our newsletter here. We are planning on offering both brown and navy blue as a part of our Kickstarter stretch goals. Actually just received a prototype of the navy colored soft briefcase, will try snapping some pictures for you.

@indesertum The early bird offerings will be in limited quantities at even further reduced prices. Prices and quantities will be announced to our newsletter subscribers first, and it will be handed out on a first-come, first served basis. My recommendation is to sign up to our newsletter here if you are looking for a steal=)

@Jr Mouse Don't have any product shots of the inside yet, but will take some this weekend. I will make sure to tag you.The cognac is blue on the inside while the black is grey.
In regards to returns: We don't have an official policy for the Kickstarter campaign yet (the legal issues are a bit complex for this stage) but we do stand by our products. If you for any reason don't like the product or there are any defects, we'll accept your return:) We know the lifeblood of this brand will not be a glossy magazine ads fueled by celebrity endorsements(hence the low prices), but you and the rest of the community - a happy customer is key for Linjer to take off. Hope this clarifies, do let me know though if you have any more questions - would love to have you as a backer(!)

Looks nice! I'll definitely be looking closer at these. I may post a link over on our MANBAG thread so readers there can take a gander.

My only caution to you as somebody who knows a thing or two about a manbag, taking a page from the Lambertson Truex men's collections, is that there comes a point after the initial "splash" when well made, affordable minimal bags need a second "push" to keep customers coming back. I LOVED LT before they went under and often listed them here as my favorite "bang for buck" bag. But, the problem that caused their demise was that once you bought one in a classic style, you really didn't need another. Season after season they sort of offered more or less the same "classic" bags. That's fine to do if you have a full other product line (like Hermes) to support during soft sales times... but without that it can be tough. It can also be tough because superlatively priced bags (like Valextra) get the extra Cache of VIP clients who buy them each season whether or not they need them. A minimal, well-made, affordable bag (almost by definition) won't have the same kind of repeat buyer.

Without seasonal "catchy" bags or SOMETHING to get new folk coming in (or old folk coming back), sustaining the customer base and maintaining growth can be tough. Those who love minimal bags don't tend to love new ones season after season after season. I'm not exactly sure the remedy to this, but I hope it is something on your radar. Like LT, it was a huge splash that everybody talked about for three or four seasons... and by 2010 they were kaput.

Another strange factor with "affordability" is that in foreign markets it can be counterproductive. Though in the USA (and perhaps Europe) there is a definitely need for this, in some of the other lucrative markets (China, Japan), affordability can work in reverse. Coach, for example, doubles or triples the price of its goods NOT because of taxes or tariffs... but because it's expected that brand bags will cost a lot. Strangely, they'd have FEWER sales in japan if they kept the same pricing structure they do in the USA. So, that also is something to consider as you may want to expand into other markets.

I think you've hit a great niche that is desperately needed, though, so I truly wish you good luck with the brand. And thanks for choosing SF as a place to start!

@rach2jlc Thank you so much, we are so happy you like the product! We can't wait to get it into your hands one day. Would be awesome if you linked us to relevant threads, after 14,252 posts I think you know the forum 100x better than us. Again, thanks for the endorsement and the kind words. Don't think people here realize how gratifying your guys feedback is:)

When I see that I've been here for a decade and have written 14,000+ posts... it sort of makes me a little depressed. J/k! Imagine all the things I could have done with that time. Learned to play the banjo. Written 1000 sonnets. Finally finished reading "Clarissa."

J/k but please keep us posted here with your new products and feel free to use this as a "sounding board" for ideas. There is a lot of noise here, of course, but there is also a very strong, knowledgeable base of posters who can give you invaluable feedback (for free).

Here is the thread in question; if you have time/interest feel free to chime in with your opinions whenever they seem relevant:

It's an old, huge thread by now, but still it's got a lot of info on there that might be useful. It's also got a lot of potential clients.

rach is one of our resident bag experts. Would be interesting to maybe handle in person in SF.

There's a lot of niche bag makers in the area... like Glaser, April in Paris, etc.

+1. I'd need to/love to see one in person and give it a full going over.

I'm a big fan of Bea at AiP, of course (given the threads/posts I've made about her), but it's definitely a different market/client than this. Even still, this is exactly what the bag market needs, assuming that everything can fall into place. I've been at a loss to recommend to younger friends/new graduates/etc. looking for a nice, affordable, classic bag what brands meet the criteria. It's a wasteland between $500-1000. Less than $500, you get Kenneth Cole garbage. More than $1000, you start to enter the (overpriced) brand arena.

Love the briefcases, particularly the soft cognac.

I'd love to write a review if you send me a case to put through its paces [IMG]

I'd be completely sold if Rach got a hands on and gave it the thumbs up. Already love the design from what you have posted here and on your site.
