Does anyone have any thoughts on linen suits? I was looking to add a nice summer suit to my wardrobe, to use for office wear, and I keep coming across linen. I was thinking of a lightweight wool in beige, cream or khaki.

I always thought linen was not really an office-type suit, except perhaps for Friday in the summer. I see it as more of a southern-gentleman-taking-in-the-Kentucky Derby-from-his-private-box type of suit.

    Any comments?

Yea, they're cool. I just bought one. I'm gonna wear it to work, with no tie. Other than that, I'll wear it to summer parties, such as graduations, older people's birthdays, stuff like that. The best thing is that I'm gonna wear the jacket seperately, with jeans.

I saw a REALLY nice beige linen suit today at the Ralph Lauren store, it even had a ticket pocket.

I don't know about that whole Kentucky Derby thing though.

Linen suits are always in. Specially for summer/garden/genteel parties. With nice brown brogues they always look good.
The Derby thing is always true, but that's part of the glamour. Its like going to Henley....

Slick: Â I was thinking of brown brouges exactly. As I said, I was planning on wool, but I came across this suit and am thinking it would be really nice with a Navy dress shirt and tie, and brown belt and brouges, such as Downings from C&J's hand grade, or without a tie as well, of course. Of course zegna soft has been widely disparaged here, but this is a less formal, more fun suit so I think it would probably be good.
