Linen suit to a Scottish wedding?

Will I look like a complete arse if I wear a khaki linen suit to an August wedding in Scotland? I'm not a Scot so a kilt (linen or otherwise) is out of the question.

If you have any English heritage you are entitled to wear certain tartans. Of course if you have any Irish blood you could get away with it.

An August in Scotland might be sunny.

I do have some Irish blood as a matter of fact, perhaps a kilt is in order!

Here are quite a few county/district tartans that would be acceptable. I suppose the most appropriate would be either the district the wedding is being held in, or the district your irish relatives are from.

Also (assuming you are french), you could wear the Jacobite tartan (the french supported the jacobites), or the Culloden tartan (to honor the french soldiers which died at Culloden).

I would also double check and make sure they actually want people in kilts. Just because the wedding is in Scotland, doesn't mean they are going to be wearing kilts. And even if the wedding party is in kilts, they may not want the guests in them.
