lighting - bulbs

I'm having trouble finding a decent looking high output LED bulb. All of the ones i've tried ether end up putting out a very narrow beam of light are too dim or have a horrible color range.

I'm open to suggestions, what has worked for you guys?

I have had the same issue. I can't find any that aren't spotlights that look like the headlights of a Mercedes. I have a feeling the technology will improve greatly in the next 10 years. It doesn't help that they are like $80 a bulb too.

I've also not yet found a lamp bulb that I am willing to buy yet. Well, not quite... an electrician friend had a prototype bulb somebody he knows is working on... a warm light like incandescent that I thought was pretty good... but he figures if/when it goes to market it will be $120 a bulb

I've run into the same thing, but I don't have any answers unless you want to try building your own. From what I've been told most of the current LED bulbs are made in China of Chinese LEDs which last about a week.

The positive note is that since there is a lot of demand for the bulbs in a variety of applications (consumer electronics, auto, home, appliances), quality should pick up. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Could be because we haven't quite got the hang of making them yet. We're still using incandescent lightbulbs and those new-fangled fluorescent ones. Anyway the LED bulbs that I've seen so far are just horrible for room illumination. Much better suited and look like sidelights on a Lexus.

i think this is a common problem now a days..
so everyone should aware from cheap quality electronics...
there is no big difference if we consider prices..
therefore everyone should go with a well name company ,which give better satisfaction if we compare with a cheap brand..

LEDs are currently only suitable for certain lighting applications. OLEDs if and when they become economically feasible may be more relevant for domestic lighting. On the other hand developments in LED are happening very quickly at the moment and the lumens/watt ratio is starting to be comparable with high pressure discharge light sources and the cost per unit reducing to the level that for certain applications an economic case can already be made.

As has been said do not buy cheap Chinese LEDs from untested suppliers. All the large lighting companies have LED divisions and they have reputations to look after and will provide you with a product which has been thoroughly tested and they will guarantee.
