- yes, I recently had one made in cotton & want more cotton suits as I have been forewarned about the heat & humidity in HKG & have experienced this in SIN.

I'd much rather NOT spend the money right now, but have begun to wonder if this is a gap that needs to be filled in my wardrobe.

It also seems a bit hard to find nice suits in those colors, certainly off the peg. There are a couple real nice Belvest suits on STP, but spending $1K for a summer suit seems like a lot to me. Ebay has been barren of candidates for as long as I've been looking.

So, should I continue searching and scouring or stick with what I have?

For guidance, I'm a lawyer who spends lots of time in office settings, depositions and mediations, and less time in the courtroom.

Something about a cream colored suit with maybe a wine colored tie and wine/other color pocket square sounds so appealing, and it is a look I cannot approach with my current wardrobe.

BTW, I also lack light colored sportcoats....

I practice in a pretty similar environment. Lots of depositions, not as much time in the courtroom.

I find the light colored summer suits not quite indispensable, but very desirable. I have the standard tan poplin suit, as well as taupe BB Golden Fleece that I picked up at the end of last season. This season, I'm planning to expand -- either adding more poplin, a very low cost option to expand the summer suit collection, or perhaps adding either a linen or a seersucker to the mix.

Especially for depositions, a summer suit is great. Even walking just a few blocks through the city, you arrive much more comfortable. I've also found that while you generally stand out a bit from the others in the room, its not awkward or unprofessional in the least. You just look like somebody with a more complete, versatile wardrobe.

An absolute must in my book. Sometimes, casual clothing is just too apathetic for the occasion and other types of suits are just too much, especially in the hot summer months. Of course, I live in southern California, so my needs might be different than someone in cooler climates.

I have a pale green linen suit,
but I always feel like the Riddler in it.
I usually break it up,
pants one day,
jacket another.

What I was thinking when I bought it,
I can't even remember

But its comfortable,
and will be in use this summer again.
