I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I love old photos. I'm a history buff, and get a huge thrill from seeing old artifacts and images. It's amazing to think how similar, and yet different, life once was.



This is one, not historic, but definitely cool. It's from National Geographic, and of Mexico City. I'm hoping it works, and for some reason, I've been failing quite handily when it comes to posting images as of late:

I love that pic, the meeting of the last survivors of the N vs S in something like 67 or 76. funny note is one of the souther guys started hooting during the shaking and its the only recording of the southern battle cry... you'll see it mentioned in quite a few documentaries and whoever the historian will attempt to mimic it for the audience, funny because heres some stuffy scolar trying to imitate the noise of a 96yo man.... sorry had to add that.

These pics won't mean much to many people but it means a great deal to me. This is Bill Millin, circa WWII:

Here are those very same pipes, now enshrined at the Pegasus Bridge Museum:

Here is Bill Millin on the beaches of Normandy as an old man:

Now, why the hub-bub? After WWI, and the casualty rates of pipers, it was against British military rules for a piper to lead the troops into battle as was the Scottish custom. On D-Day, Lord Lovatt commanded Bill to march onto the beach, in full regalia, and pipe the troops in. Millin reminded the famous Lord it was against the rules. Reputedly, Lovat replied those rules were English and they were after all, Scottish. Millin marched back and forth on the beach on D-Day and roused the troops while he withstood withering fire. Oh, forgot to mention, The Longest Day. He is the piper portrayed in the movie.

This was taken 2 blocks from my house
Long story shot, biking used to be my escape/hobby then this past July I was in a bad accident which prohibited me from riding. About a month after that I bought a used camera for cheap and that has been my hobby since.

That's Chicago.... and that picture just makes me want to live there. (Obv. not quite the same at street level...)
