I recently tried the Lidfort shoes at Nicholas, a menswear store in Toronto, Canada. I was advised that they were completely handmade and quite hard to come by. The owner told me that only his store and Barneys New York carry them. They retailed for $995 Cdn. Even though I wear size 8.5 EE in Ferragamos and Santonis, the Lidfort shoes were quite roomy, substantial and quite comfortable.

Before I consider investing in a pair of the Lidfort Banker shoes in Cognac ( quite beautiful), I wonder if any styleforum members know anything about these shoes. Thanks in advance.

I have a pair that I bought at the Barneys warehouse sale. They are nice, but $1000 Canadian seems like an awful lot to me. I wouldn't put them in the same league as C&J Handgrade, and Barneys regular price is less than that, I believe. They are frequently on sale

They're moving down market, also, as Bloomingdale's latest catalogue has them.

Lidfort are good shoes, but certainly not worth $1K.

"completely handmade?"

That store manager is either completely uninformed or outright lying.

Resuscitating this old thread...
Had exactly the same experience as the OP today, only the shoes were now over a grand. Very nice welted shoes in aniline or calf. SA claimed that the makers didn't want more than one retailer in a market carrying the shoes. I pointed out that the website of another men's shop in town advertizes the line, and he said he 'let them' carry them. :butbut:
