Hi,

Was stuck without a second tie while away from home and I usually wear paul smith. Went to place that stocks paul smith ties, but they were out and ended up buying a Liberty tie instead.

The Liberty tie is 100% silk but very flimsy almost like a neckerchief. Excuse my ignorance but what is the main groups of ties and are flimsy ones of less quality that stiff ties? Flimsy silk ties tend to be more vibrant in color (duchamp) so maybe its just a different type of tie?

Without seeing/feeling the tie in question, it's difficult to be sure what you mean.

I would say that ties come in lots of different silk weights, with different weights of interlining (and some with none/very little lining at all), and widths/shapes. Pick the kind of tie that give you a knot/look you like, would be my advice.

I own several Liberty bow ties and don't find them to be flimsy (can't comment on their straight ties if they have them).

Yes, thats the best thing.

Did some checking and all my paul smith ties are woven silk. Seems this gives a much stiffer, thicker tie, where as the Liberty is almost like handkerchief material. To be honest I really like my new Liberty tie and it does have a shine and colour that is quite striking.
