Gentlemen, I'm thinking about buying a couple of pairs of Levi's Premium on eBay, probably the 'Austin' model when I can find it in my size. Quite a few of the eBay descriptions for these jeans say something along the lines of 'size 31/30, actual waist measurement 30 inches' - this is on a 'New With Tags' item. Those who own them, what exactly is the sizing like for Premium? Slim/baggy cut? Big or small in the seat? What's the denim quality like? And so on and so on... Thanks. PS. 'Levi Strauss Signature'? When did this happen? Is there any semblance of quality to this line, or is it just a soulless grab for cash?

The sizing for Levi's Premium's, and the Austin in particular, vary depending on the material and year of issue. Earlier versions of the jean, and especially those in the cotton/poly blend, fit rather tight in the seat and thighs and flares out under the knee, like a somewhat looser version of what is now the Skinner, and has a surprisingly high waist. The 100% cotton, "dazed", resin-treated incarnation, which I am particularly fond of, have a lower and wider (for the same size) waistline, are fairly relaxed in the seat, and have only a slight bootleg. Why don't you try www.Bluefly.com? They have a good selection for only $50 or so, and a great return policy.

Thanks for the quick response, LA Guy - I'll admit I hadn't thought that the same model would differ in 'shape' over different seasons. I wanted to use Bluefly a few weeks ago, when they were having a Levi's sale - Premium jeans were available for about US$25 - but Bluefly won't ship anything Levi's out of the US. Keeps the price - and Levi's 'mystique' - high in foreign nations, I guess. I'm going to have to find a local distributor...

Whoa, you thought the waist on skinner's was high? Â They were the lowest rise jeans I've ever worn...they barely fit over my butt. Â Then again, I've never really liked low rise jeans, probably because they don't compliment my body...anyways, imo, I would characterize them as snug in the butt area, with relaxed thigh and leg. As far as sizing, I've found that they ran true to size, whereas PDC adds an inch, and Diesel Looxe add two inches.

As far as sizing, I've found that they ran true to size,...

Is that in reference to the Austin or Skinner?

A couple of sites selling the Skinner style noted that Skinners 'tend to run a size small', while another suggested buying a size based on hip measurement...
