    Hello everyone,

I was hoping someone could help me find the similarities and differences between Levis 504, 505, 508 and 513 jeans?

I have looked over the internet extensively and with my original purpose just trying to find differences between 513, 514 and 505, I ran into the above problem. Now I'm tired of looking and hoping you wise sartorialists and consumers can help me!

I purchased some 513s over the weekend but after getting home, I'm a little uncomfortable with the way they look on me. I work out (lift weights, run 3 - 4x per week) and don't like relaxed fits since they look to boxy on me. I'm ~5'9 and 135lbs. Any suggestions as well for levis I should try?

The 513s fit well on me - they don't hug the body too much, not skin tight. However I feel skinnier than I am when I wear something like a button down shirt or polo. I thought maybe leaving more room in the thighs or seat and keeping a slightly tapered leg opening would wave this problem?

If that's the case then 508 is what you are looking for.

    Also have you seen this?

Thanks very much for that link! It's very helpful. I've seen the term "carrot-fit" thrown around. Is that how the 508 is described?

In my experience, the 508 has an extreme taper. It gives off that punk-rocker vibe. I think mine have something like a 35 waist, 25" thigh and a 7" leg opening. Looks great with a pair of beat up sneakers. Levi cuts vary depending on the country/time of manufacture so YMMV.

513 is like a slightly more forgiving version of the 511.

AFAIK there isn't anything with a moderate taper that Levi's offers, like the N&F Weird Guy, except for the older 508's.

Thanks very much for your input. I've just about had it with all the numbers. And the "Fit Guide" on the levis web page that I was directed to didn't have the same description as when I went into a Macy's store, so I guess this added to my confusion.

On the website, it says the 505s and 508s have the same rise but on a large poster in the store, the 505 was described as having a lower rise. I guess because I work out, the 514s didn't seem overly baggy around the thighs to me as some other posters around the SF forms have explained (but again, "baggy" can be subjective), but I didn't like the wider leg opening. Since I do lift weights, I have to wear shirts that are slightly larger and so they have a longer shirt tail - this means when I wear 513s, the tails go beyond the midway of the crotch and it just looks funny / I look skinnier.

I may have to try on some 508s then. If anyone reading is interested, JC Penny currently has a 20% off sale for any purchase over $100, including Levi's (Code: DEAL4ME) . I think it ends Friday, 5/3. And if you use Ebates, you can get a further 8% off of your purchase.

I have never bought a Levi's at JcPenny's. It's like their selection is very poor in terms of quality and styles.

    Macy's is better.

Even better is going directly to a Levis store. They running a sale 25% off $150 purchase. I would bite the bullet and buy it from there, they last longer and their selection is way cooler.

I'm really disappointed with your comment and thought people on SF were more polite than elsewhere. You being condescending is just disappointing. I'm fairly comfortable with the way I look and besides, if I was 15-20lbs heavier as someone like the user name "BigRob" would probably see as "normal," I don't think I could run a mile in under 5 minutes.
