Levis experts...regarding button numbers?

I just got in a pair of older 501's with 553 on the button. Can anyone tell me something about the numbering on the buttons and what it means? Is there a chart or list somewhere with this type of information?

There's no chart that I know of. The stamp on the buttons usually determines where and when it was made, sometimes in a more specific sense than other details (like the leather patch and red tab) and sometimes crossing over eras. Sorry I can't of more help on this one.

55X = made in the US. Dont know which factory 553 refers to.

554 was the San Antonio, TX factory. 555 = famous Valencia Street, San Fran. factory
