How does Levi's denim not made in the USA such as 511s and 514s compared to others such as APC and J Brand? I need a durable jean that I can wear 1x-2x to work a weak. Any thoughts or suggestions? Is Levis the way to go? Stack up and by 2-3 pairs, versus 1 pair of J Brand or APC?

I have both the Levi’s 511 and A.P.C. New Standards.

I bought the 511s because the New Standards were 50% more expensive, but ended up buying the New Standards as well because I wasn’t happy with the fit and I wanted something without all the pocket stitching.

I wouldn’t say the A.P.C. jeans are any more ‘durable’ but I think they sure age better, and I get a lot more wear out of them.

Thats my concern. Even though you may be saving the money up front you loose it in the end. And the APC is a better looking jean. I've seen pictures that Levis dont hold up well.

So are you suggesting the 511 are bad quality?

I have some 511s in a wash called Magno that are the heaviest, stiffest jeans I've ever worn. They can stand up of their own accord.

    I exaggerate slightly.

1-2x a week, you'd be fine with either one. What type of work do you do? APC's are thin and light weight also at 12oz, levis will vary in weight.

When you can get Levi's for $25 at the outlets, it's a no-brainer.

I have 514's from Kohl's that are +5 years with no issues.

there was a great review by Lel, one of the posters here, who showed a well-worn pair of levis versus some apcs of the same vintage. the upshot was that the apcs looked better. i can't find the lnk i'm afraid.

Levi's fabric will vary a lot depending on the colorway, model, etc. Some thin and cheap, others a little nicer, some with stretch, some raw, etc. I'd just go with whatever brand's cut you like best and don't worry about durability.. unless you need something really strong for work or something. I happen to like the cut of the 511 (a little narrower than the New Standard) and you can get them on sale like every week.
