Recently took the plunge into espresso after exclusively doing kalita wave/v60 pourovers for the past couple years:

Picked up a used VBM domobar jr from craigslist, and got in on March's round of NZs.

Then invest in a quality hand grinder which can be very useful for portable pourovers aswell. I suggest looking into the Kinu M47 or its cheaper variants (which will give you pretty much the same grind quality).

+1 on the Kinu M47, it's a great grinder that can do pretty much everything.

You can sometimes find manufacturers that will handle the r&d for free but the molds and stuff will cost. Maybe consider taking it to a few niche brands and asking for a royalty.

Reach out to someone like Paul Pratt at Cafelat or Doug Garrott at Orphan Espresso. Doug builds grinders and Paul has developed several coffee products like the Robot. They may not help you but they may point you in the right direction.
Or maybe someone like James Hoffman.

Could your idea be done with a 3D printer? Would be good to make it and try it for a while. Get some input from coffee pros.
Do you know if your idea has ever been tried?

I haven’t researched that yet. I was just thinking Saturday morning on some issues with the design, issues I’ve had with wine decanters that some decanters have designed around.

That Domobar is gorgeous; really nice pickup. Very similar to my current set-up - just added a NZ in the mix and loving it so far:

I only had my BZ10 for 2 months and I'm already looking at upgrading to a sick lever machine like the Londinium R or Profitec Pro 800.
