I'm going nuts reading people's take on denim weight and stretching. Some people say heavier weight denim's stretch more because there is more fabric so it will stretch more. Other's say it won't stretch as much. The latter seems more logical.

Do you know the weight of julian red cali's,Earnest Sewn Kyrres, or puma evisu slim fits?

I generally don't know what I'm talking about, but I think stretching has more to do with the tightness of the denim weave.

It's a combination of the tightness of the weave and the stretchiness of the yarn. The fabric weight is not nearly as significant.

With regard to stretchiness, a combination of way the yarn is woven and the properties of the yarn itself are more important than the denim weight alone. This goes with pretty any type of cloth, not just denim.

An obvious example is that a cotton poplin shirt is not going to be as stretchy as a poplin shirt with a small fraction of elastane in the cloth. And poplin is usually a very tight, fine weave, but a stretch poplin shirt will (obviously) stretch more than a loosely woven linen shirt.

Julian Red Dry California jeans are either 12 or 13 ounces, iirc, and Earnest Sewn usually uses lightweight denim, somewhere between 10.5-11.5 ounces, though I am not familiar with the Kyrres.
