Length of Suit Jacket vs Length of Dress Shirt

I recently purchased a dress shirt and it has size 35" sleeves. When I was fitted for a suit jacket, I was told to get a 37R. Unfortunately, the place I am purchasing the jacket only has 38R and 38L. The sleeve length of the 38R is said to be only 33". Given that my dress shirt sleeve is 35", doesn't 33" seem too short, comparatively? The 38L has sleeves of length 34". I am about 5.11 1/2", so I don't know which one would fit better, since I am pretty much on the edge of regular and long. I know the jacket sleeves should be shorter, but I don't know how much shorter they usually are. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

Try both on! Then evaluate.

Try but be prepared to go somewhere else. What size is right in one cut/make may not be in another.
