So I got a chrome Leica MP a while back and it's been a great camera - I'm pretty tempted to pick up a M7 though or trade my MP in for one... thoughts?

I've owned a number of Leica's and the only ones I regret letting go were my M6ttl's - they had everything needed and not a lot of extraneous features.

Well the funny thing is that my first Leica was a M6TTL as well... x.85 was pretty nice.

Ah - decisions.

Truthfully between the MP and the M7, I would take the MP because if the battery goes, it's just the light meter. With the M7 if the battery goes, the camera becomes an expensive paperweight.

For the record I own two "vintage" Leicas one a dual stroke early production M3 that used to belong to my dad and a M4-2.

The AE on the M7 is nice, but exposure is so easy to set with the MP that I don't see much of a real advantage to it. Anyway, if you're going to shoot film, you might as well go with the more elementally pure camera and keep a good digital point-and-shoot around for backup.

The most sensible solution so you can have the best of all worlds. Used R2As go for what, about $500 give or take?
