Gimme that elastic waist and 80s paneling. Nothing against the venerable and time-tested designs most frequently discussed here but I can't resist the pull of a few well executed more discutable or scabrous details.

Looks like the timing is good for what I was going to post. Taylor's Leatherwear, which is a (non LARP) workwear leather provider, largely to police departments, had some pretty interesting jackets in their sale, and I ordered one. (Their normal price, too, is lower than most of the stuff we talk about.) By all accounts, their jackets and accessories are overbuilt, and the leather itself of high quality though fairly solid black, not the stuff the repro guys get super excited over.

The website is spartan, but they have a pretty wide range of styles and a long list of available modifications for most of them. A fair few have designs like the Lemaire stuff above, and could work for other oversized modern looks.

A few stood out to me especially: the Detroit Motorcycle Jacket, which seems to be the Buco police rider design (makes sense, since Buco was from Detroit) except with elasticated sides instead of a a separate belt, the New Orleans Motorcycle Jacket, which is a clean three pocket front with a nice action back and padded kidney panel [the back design as a whole reminds me a ton of 50s Sears motorcycle jackets which had an extremely detailed and functional action back], the Lynchburg Police Jacket, which is a really nice and simple single-breasted leather jacket in grainy soft navy cowhide and elasticated sides, the Cleveland Police Jacket, a really simple leather jacket with double zipper, two pocket front and action back, and the Passaic Cowhide Jacket, which is the one I ordered.

Oh and almost all of these have detachable Thinsulate liners. Good bang for your buck.

Took delivery of my Aero “Original Hercules” in Rust Goat Suede. Fantastic jacket!

Not sure if this is the right thread to ask but anyone know where I can find a good alternative to the Stoffa Flight Jacket/A2 Style in a Dark Chocolate Suede? Basically looking for something with a nice generous collar, double zip and hip pockets w/ box pleat and hidden buttons

why not just get the Stoffa?I looked around for a while for something similar but ended up with the Stoffa.

Such an interesting change of pace for this thread. I love when someone posts something other than a black DR or cafe racer. This one is quite different and so interesting.

It makes me think again of the Aero/LVC jacket with the oversized collar that I keep feeling drawn to. The collar looks almost 70s. Just an all around fun jacket.

I'm guessing he wants something hardier or with a different fit, though a sturdier leather is not going to have the beautiful drape that the Stoffa does.

So just an update if anyone cares about my Vanson M2M: Finally got all the specs nailed down since I started this process back in October. The timeline is 18 weeks to build the jacket — starting now.

Personal thoughts: I wouldn't have signed up if I knew it was going to take this long. I'm perfecty happy — if not more than — with my Schott x Bathing Ape cafe racer.

What vanson daredevil?

it was a fiasco on this forum. Thurston over promised and it took forever then came out with a collar gap no one liked. I think jacket looks fine at the end.

but just search styleforum vanson daredevil
